New Contest: First Lines

Pix-N-Pens is pleased to welcome our special guest judge, Camy Tang, for our contest this week. Camy knows the importance of first lines, and has even written an article about them - you can read it here.

Your challenge for the week: Submit your BEST first line - from your current or completed work-in-progress, or even just a first line you hope to write a story around in the future. (No published first lines, please.) Get your entries to me at tracyruckman [at] gmail [dot] com by this Friday, May 9th for your chance to win an autographed copy of Camy's latest release: Only Uni.

I'll post the entries as they arrive - feel free to leave comments if one hooks you!

More about our judge:

Camy Tang is the loud Asian chick who writes loud Asian chick lit. She used to be a biologist, but now she is a staff worker for her church youth group and leads a worship team for Sunday service. She also runs the Story Sensei fiction critique service. On her blog, she gives away Christian novels every Monday and Thursday, and she ponders frivolous things like dumb dogs (namely, hers), coffee-geek husbands (no resemblance to her own...), the writing journey, Asiana, and anything else that comes to mind. Visit her website and sign up for her newsletter YahooGroup for monthly giveways!

Camy's blog is one of my favorites - always full of energy, and she always posts useful and/or fun topics!

About Only Uni:

Will Trish Sakai be able to follow her three simple rules and hold outagainst two gorgeous guys?Trish Sakai is ready for a change from her wild, flirtatious behavior. And her three cousins are anxious for her to change, too. Trish isalways knocking something over, knocking herself out, and taking hardknocks in her perpetual confusion about men.

When Trish's ex-boyfriend, Kazuo the artist, keeps popping up at allthe wrong moments, Trish decides to be firm with herself. She createsthree simple rules from First and Second Corinthians and plans tofollow them to the letter. No more looking at men! No more datingnon-Christians! She will persevere in hardship by relying on God.

Except now Kazuo is claiming Trish is his muse, and he can't completehis major work of art without her. And a gorgeous coworker isreassigned, bringing him in daily contact with Trish. But her cousinsare determined to hold her accountable to her plan. She thought threerules would be a cinch, but suddenly Trish's simple rules don't seemso simple after all.

Thanks for having me here, Tracy! I hope people enjoy the contest.

And just to reiterate what I already emailed to Tracy, people can submit up to the first paragraph of their manuscript.

Thanks!
Camy
